Aptos 2024: Ecological Development, Technological Breakthroughs, and Future Prospects Speaking of Aptos, I've been observing this project recently and have some thoughts to share with everyone. 1️⃣ Ecological and Technological Breakthroughs 2024 is definitely a turning point for Aptos. From 250 ecological projects at the beginning of the year to over 330 by the end of the year, this growth rate reminds me of the explosive period of the Ethereum ecosystem in 2017. But what impresses me even more is its technological breakthroughs. On August 15, Aptos processed 326 million transactions, breaking its own record of 156 million set in May. I was thinking, what does this processing capacity mean? It's not just a simple TPS number game, but a real application carrying capacity. 2️⃣ Ecological Applications and Data Performance Recently, Aave's launch on Aptos is particularly noteworthy. This is Aave's first deployment on a non-EVM blockchain, with the entire code rewritten in the Move language. I think this is a strong signal—Aave has always been known for its security, and this choice of Aptos indicates that they value not only performance but also the security of the Move language. From the data, Aptos's TVL achieved nearly a 20-fold increase in 2024, soaring from $170 million at the beginning of the year to over $2.1 billion. Especially in the liquid staking sector, Amnis Finance's TVL reached $390 million, with the number of users growing by 770%. 3️⃣ Cross-Border Payment Layout and Challenges But I am more concerned about its layout in the cross-border payment field. The collaboration with the Mexican exchange Bitso provides 9 million Latin American users with second-level cross-border settlement, which is the market Aptos truly wants to tap into. The pain points of traditional cross-border payments are too obvious—slow, expensive, and opaque. Aptos's technological advantages can maximize value in this scenario. Of course, we must also face the challenges. The token unlock pressure in September is considerable, with 11.31 million APT equivalent to 1.65% of the circulating supply. However, based on historical performance, market acceptance has been quite good; the last unlock of the same scale only saw a 4% drop, and there are signs of institutional accumulation. 4️⃣ Future Prospects and Investment Logic I believe Aptos is now at a critical juncture. The technological foundation has been solidified, and the ecosystem is beginning to thrive, but the real test is whether it can achieve breakthroughs in institutional-level applications. The roadmap shows that the core engine Decibel won't go live on the mainnet until early 2026, which gives us a sufficient observation window. From an investment perspective, I think Aptos represents an important direction for blockchain technology—not just a simple decentralized experiment, but a true infrastructure capable of supporting large-scale commercial applications. Under this positioning, its potential is indeed vast. @Aptos @AptosCollective

The Rise and Challenges of Aptos in the RWA Field Seeing that tweet about Aptos ranking third in the RWA field, I suddenly recalled an interesting phenomenon: those public chains that we once forgot are unexpectedly coming back into the spotlight. 1. The Current Situation of Aptos and Its Performance in the RWA Field This year, I have been following the development trajectories of various public chains, and Aptos's performance has indeed surprised me. When it launched at the end of 2022, it was under the halo of "former Meta engineers" and "the successor to Diem technology," but it was quickly drowned out by the market's noise. At that time, everyone was discussing the revival of Solana and the rise of new L2s, and few mentioned this young L1. But data doesn't lie. Aptos currently has a total locked value of $723 million in RWA, ranking third in the entire crypto market, only behind Ethereum and zkSync Era. What impressed me even more is that it supports 22 tokenized products, covering mainstream institutions' products from BlackRock, Franklin Templeton to Berkeley Square. 2. Reasons for RWA Becoming a New Breakthrough for Public Chains and Aptos's Advantages This brings me to a question: why has RWA become the breakthrough point for these "established" public chains to rise again? I think the answer may lie in the uniqueness of RWA itself. Traditional DeFi protocols place more emphasis on network effects and liquidity, and Ethereum's first-mover advantage is almost unshakeable. But RWA is different; it resembles a reshuffling opportunity. When institutions choose RWA issuance platforms, they consider compliance, security, and technological maturity rather than the existing ecosystem scale. Aptos indeed has advantages in this regard. The security design of the Move programming language, high performance from parallel execution, and relatively low operational costs all align well with institutional needs. More importantly, as a relatively "clean" new chain, it has no historical baggage, making it easier to meet regulatory requirements. 3. Limitations of RWA Assets, Challenges for Aptos, and Future Outlook However, I also noticed a problem, as mentioned in that tweet: the activity of RWA does not intuitively bring trading volume and ecological vitality to public chains. Although zkSync Era ranks second in the RWA market, it is only 61st in DeFiLlama's DeFi TVL ranking. What does this indicate? Most RWA assets are closed private credit certificates, which cannot flow freely between protocols like traditional DeFi assets. They are more like "islands"; while they can bring locked value, they struggle to generate network effects. Therefore, Aptos's next challenge is how to make these RWA assets "come alive." I noticed that Aave has just launched on Aptos, marking Aave's first deployment on a non-EVM compatible chain. This move is quite interesting, indicating that Aptos is attempting to build a bridge between RWA and DeFi. Imagine if, within a compliant framework, tokenized government bonds, corporate bonds, and other RWA assets could be used as collateral in DeFi protocols—what a huge market that would be! This could not only activate existing RWA assets but also attract more traditional funds onto the chain. In a sense, Aptos is taking a different path from other public chains: instead of competing for existing DeFi users, it aims to create a new user base. This path may be more challenging, but the potential for imagination is also greater. After all, real opportunities often lie not in doing better, but in doing differently.

Dive deeper into Aptos

Throughout 2022, the Layer 1 protocol landscape witnessed significant advancements. Ethereum's shift to Proof of Stake (PoS) and the NFT boom shed light on blockchain limitations under heightened demand. Amidst the increasing adoption of cryptocurrencies, ensuring resilient data protection and security infrastructure has become imperative, particularly given the surge in online vulnerabilities.

Addressing these concerns, Aptos emerges as a promising contender. Leveraging its scalable, secure, and dependable network, Aptos has garnered considerable attention from industry developers.

What is Aptos

Aptos stands as a robust Layer 1 Proof of Stake (PoS) blockchain solution, emphasizing security, dependability, and user-friendliness. Built using the Move programming language, Aptos boasts an array of advanced features, with its mainnet, "Aptos Autumn," making its debut on October 17, 2022.

Aptos operates through three fundamental components: the Move language (a smart contract programming tool), the Aptos Move data model, and the Move module, all collaboratively enabling a transaction processing capacity of up to 160,000 transactions per second (TPS)

Additionally, Aptos prioritizes security, employing robust measures to safeguard user assets and information. Currently, the Aptos ecosystem accommodates over 19 decentralized finance (DeFi) initiatives, spanning liquid staking platforms, decentralized exchanges (DEX), lending protocols, and more.

The Aptos team

Aptos has its origins in the Meta (formerly Facebook) Web3 initiative known as "Diem." The team, including its CEO Mo Shaikh and CTO Avery Ching, was initially part of Diem's development. Despite Meta discontinuing Diem in January 2022, the committed team decided to persist, leading to the establishment of Aptos. This dedicated group now operates under the name "Aptos Labs".

How does Aptos work

Aptos utilizes advanced technologies and components to establish a fast, scalable, and secure system. The Move programming language, developed specifically by the Diem team and adopted by Aptos developers, plays a crucial role in the blockchain's functionality. It enables easier auditing and analysis of blockchain data, enhancing security and transparency. Additionally, Move has a virtual machine, a compiler, and a verifier called Mover Prover, designed for smart contracts.

Aptos employs the Move Virtual Machine (MVM) as its state machine, similar to the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). The MVM converts Move modules into bytecodes that the Aptos blockchain can interpret.

Aptos’ mainnet currently operates on the latest version of AptosBFT (version 4). AptosBFT, short for Aptos Byzantine Fault Tolerance, is a consensus technique known for optimizing network processes. This protocol mitigates the effects of failed validators on the system's throughput and latency.

On October 19, 2022, Aptos launched the Aptos Bridge. This feature enables the seamless transfer of Tether (USDT), USD Coin (USDC), and Ethereum (ETH), between the Aptos network and various decentralized systems such as Avalanche, Ethereum, Polygon, and Binance Smart Chain (BSC). Users can withdraw their cryptocurrencies from the Aptos network with the Aptos Bridge. However, a three-day transfer window is endorsed for such withdrawals to ensure network stability.

Aptos’s native token: APT

APT is the native utility token of the Aptos blockchain. It is the foundation for decentralized governance of the Aptos network, granting APT holders the right to vote on decisions that influence the future of the platform.

APT tokenomics

Aptos has a total supply of 1,034,718,849 APT tokens with no maximum supply. By September 2032, the total supply of Aptos will hit 1.5 billion APT. Aptos has a burn mechanism which reduces the circulating supply by destroying APT tokens from fees and reward blocks.

The token can also be used across the entire Aptos ecosystem. APT uses a standard implementation which improves its interoperability and compatibility across the Aptos ecosystem.

APT use cases

APT functions as the utility and governance token of the Aptos network. It serves as payment for gas fees for transactions on the Aptos blockchain. It is also used to incentivize community contributions and security services of validators on the network.

Distribution of APT

Aptos launched in October 2022 with an initial supply of 1 billion APT tokens distributed as follows:

  • 51.02 percent was airdropped to community members.
  • 19 percent was issued to Aptos core contributors.
  • 16.5 percent was reserved for the Aptos Foundation.
  • 13.48 percent was allocated to investors.

The road ahead for Aptos

The Aptos team has announced that the fifth and latest version of AptosBFT is under development and will be released in a future upgrade to increase the scalability of the network to support the development of more decentralized applications (dApp). In addition, Aptos is now working with Mastercard to build a decentralized infrastructure for on-chain identity and payments.
